Bradley Park' s boys secure landmark win
Former PGA captain Parnell Reilly expressed his huge admiration for Bradley Park juniors as he presented them with the Halifax-Huddersfield Union league trophy following their first triumph in the competition in the club’s history.Reilly, Bradley Park’s head pro from 1981 to 2014, spoke at a gathering at the club to celebrate the achievement, which saw the youngsters score wins in eight of their 10 fixtures and suffer only one defeat – and that with the title already assured. “You have parents that look after you and support you, you’ve got a fantastic coaching team, practice facilities and a great golf course – very tough but very fair – and I’d like to congratulate all of you, on your individual achievements and your team achievements,” said Reilly, who officiated at two Ryder Cups during his PGA captaincy. “You’ve won the HalifaxHuddersfield junior league for the first time in the club’s history and I hope it’s the first of many. You’ve had great team spirit and individual spirit all the way through this.” Bradley Park’s growing status as a force at junior level was underscored by many strong performances by their team in the union’s development league. In addition, Yuvraj Sandhu, Ralphie Griffiths and Coil Griffin placed first, second and third respectively in the union’s nine-hole junior order of merit. Bradley Park, one of Yorkshire’s foremost clubs based on a municipal course, left the likes of storied clubs Huddersfield and Woodsome Hall trailing in their wake in the league under the guidance of Phil Smith, the club’s junior coordinator. He stands at the apex of a large team of volunteers that has club members and parents at its base, ensuring correct duty of care supervision is provided during coaching as well as match days. Further essential support has come from head pro Tom Wild and sponsors CE Bennett & Sons. Team captain is 15-year-old Harris Barnes, a Brooksbank School pupil who last year won England Golf’s prestigious men’s Race to Woodhall Spa competition with an outstanding performance in the 43-strong final. He has proved an inspiration, both on the course during matches but also off it as teammates strive to be good enough to try to match that achievement.“The beauty of it is people are now trying to follow Harris,” said Smith. “If you talk to Raj, talk to Coil, talk to Ralphie, they want to do what Harris has done in two years, they want to be where Harris is in
two years.” Barnes, who has three more seasons as a junior ahead of him, said: “I’d like to thank everyone for consistently turning up and attending the matches throughout the summer
and hopefully we’ll do the same next year.” His teammates included Griffiths, Charlie Jagger and George Gray while fine displays from the development squad came from Sandhu, Griffin, Manroop Gossal, Max Ivors, Hayden Scott and Ethan Morris.

2024 team reports
Scratch Team – Ben Kaye
The scratch team fell just short of promotion to division 2. In a tight fought league finishing 2 points behind Outlane in second place. A few draws away at Hebden Bridge & at home to Outlane ultimately cost a top two spot.
With defeats 6-2 away to Outlane and Willow Valley towards the latter stages it left too much to claw back despite an 8-0 win at home to Hebden Bridge on the final game week.
In the foursomes Ben Kaye and Jordan Taylor qualified in second spot with a gross score of 76 (+4) at willow valley for the matchplay knockout stage. Going down unfortunately losing on the final hole in the quarter final against Elland at crow nest park.
We look forward to next year with junior Captain Harris no doubt coming into the fold
Handicap Team - Mick Hansen
Handicap team maintained their place in Division 1 of the handicap league. Finishing in 4th on the same points as the team in 2nd.
Rabbits League – Richard Rogers
Very nearly did it. The season went very well. Team had a very strong core setting out with Garry Birt, Cliff Froggett, Michael Waddington, Chris Forbes, Jamal Kelly, Ben Page, Tom McGarrell and Steve Kelly getting Bradley Park away to a strong start. Then due to handicap changes with 2 of the team, and work with another we lost some of our core. However we kept on. Stuart Hurst added to our playing strength we almost got there.
Our downfall was away at Castle fields and Crossland heath. When can we win at Castlefields?
In the end played 20 (10 matches) won 12, drew 3 and lost 5
Finished off second in the league with 34 points 1 point behind the champions Castlefields.
Rabbits Friendlies – Tom Parker
All fixtures went ahead but we had to re-arrange the away visit to Cleckheaton due to England being in the Semi Final of Euros
A good cross section of Rabbits played throughout the season and RP tried to spread the opportunities equally to give everyone a similar number of games
As new members joined the club they were invited to participate and all took up the invitation, stating they really enjoyed the occasions. Some of the younger ones asked “how do I get picked for the Rabbits League Matches (over to you Stuart!!)
HHDRGA & YRGA - Ben Page

Rabbit Captains Day
On 7th May this year the Rabbit Captain held his golf day. This was a drawn competition off white tees and 90 plus golfers from all sections of the club turned out.
After a chilly to say the least start at 7.30am by the time the first groups were coming around to the half way house the sun had broken through and spirits lifted. Unfortunately not enough to improve many scores.
The half way house was set up and stocked with many wonderful snacks for golfers to enjoy for a small leveraged donation.
The golf progressed with many a mumble about how great but fast the greens were and how punishing it was when you strayed into the rough.
After a great day one golfer broke par, congratulations to our Rabbits Treasurer Roy Parker who came in with 39 points from the white tees.
Finally when all was played out we counted up the take and were delighted to present £350 to the Overgate Hospice Charity. Besides this we collected £20 for the Rabbit 2025 Presidents fund from golfers straying into the ponds on the 2nd and 7th holes.
A very gratefully thank you to all who donated food for the halfway house to the golfers who took part and donated so generously.
Thank you all
Richard Rogers

Rabbits v Women
On a very sunny Saturday the annual Rabbits v Women golf match got underway with the gathering in the club house for coffees, tea and sandwiches. There was lots of banter and a nervous expectation between all especially the 2 Captains.
The draw was the revealed with ooooohs, aaaaahs and laughter.
Richard, Carlyn, Stuart and Sue then led the way at 9.52
To say it was close was stating the obvious. The first match went to the Rabbits, then the next to the Women. The next 4 matches went the same way each side taking 2. So it came down to the last match, the wait outside the clubhouse was jolly but tense. When the final 4 approached and declared their result there was a roar from all golfers present displaying how serious but friendly this event is. The final match went to the Rabbits
It's been a long run of 9 victories by the Women's section finally halted by a victorious Rabbits section. The after event social of drinks from both Captains accompanied by scones and jam from the committee were well received and the banter continued.
A very big thank you to all golfers and well done everyone from both Captains. Good luck to Suart and Sue for next year's event. Well played Rabbits!!!
Burns night 2023
Bradley Park GC Burns Night Celebrations was held on Saturday 28th January at the Holiday Inn Brighouse. Mr Captain did a great job with his ode to the Haggis this was followed by a traditional burns night meal.
We had a different band this year the NERDS and they packed the dance floor all night. Rebecca did another fantastic job wrapping and presenting the raffle prizes and once again a BIG thankyou to all the sponsors of the raffle.
Thanks to all the 97 that supported the event, we are already planning for the 2024 event.

Lady Captains Day 2022
I would like to thank everyone who played in Lady Captain’s day, everyone was very generous with the amount collected of £420 going to The National Autistic Society.
The weather was kind and the threatening thunderstorms kept away. There was plenty of food contributed by the Ladies, which was very well organised by my helpers Jane, Sally and Deborah.
The evening celebration was very well attended, and the number of bottles, chocolates and golf balls contributed for the raffle was amazing, thank you so much to those who donated,
There are so many people I would like to thank for their help, I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone, the combination of everyone’s help made it a good day and we raised a lot of money.
Sue Malins, Lady Captain
