Saturday 13th July 2013 saw one of the best competitions for a number of years at the club with a record number of 15 teams of 8 players and a fantastically well supported social event in the evening.
On the hottest day for a few years and with the course dryer and faster than many participants had previously experienced, playing in this years Richard Kaye Social Cup was an exceptional occasion. With some of the players not having played Bradley Park before they were certainly welcomed with good memories of a difficult course (it’s amazing how much easier it is to hit the ball into the trees when it bounces further than usual), but also of a great spirit within the club as many people were on site socialising before and after play.
With players who were playing well getting maximum benefit from their shots it was obviously going to be a day of good scores, so the fact 43 points was well short of the best gents score of the day, goes to highlight how well Niall Dobson played. A score of 47 points is credit to the effort Niall puts into his golf with the number of junior and midweek 9 hole competitions that Niall plays. Very Well done Niall.
For the ladies section, Sandra Shillito seized the day to score 42 points and won the ladies trophy. Great credit must also go to Sandra for the extra lessons she has been having with Jack. Well done Sandra and let this be a lesson to all golfers that if you play more golf than others or have lessons to improve your game, you give yourself the best chance to be successful.
What a great decision it was to have the social evening with a bbq outside. The fantastic weather and brilliant response by a large cross section of members made the day complete and one to remember for a long time.
Thanks to everyone who helped on the day must go out, in particular to Shaun on the chipping challenge that raised £80 for Mr Captains Charity. Also to the juniors who helped with dismantling the outside area so the following morning everything was back to normal. Roll on next year…
