28/05/2014 – Speed of play

During this evenings Club Committee, lengthy discussion took place with regard to speed of play on the course. With input from the Competition Secretary, Lady Captain, Club Captain and almost every member of the committee, a number of ideas were discussed and a couple of conclusions reached. Whilst we keep in regular contact with the pro shop and have noticed an increase in the number of spot checks, as requested, the club can only be responsible for our members.  With this in mind, two changes are being trialled. Firstly, we ask all members to enter both their tee off time and also the time of walking off the 18th hole onto their card. Secondly, during a selection of upcoming competitions, a full review of time taken to complete will be undertaken and fed back to its members.

27/05/2014 – Texas Scramble results

The smallest possible margin separated the 1st and 2nd placed teams on Sunday as the clubs annual Texas Scramble took place.  In conditions more appropriate for swimming than golfing, the hardy competitors put in a fantastic effort and contributed to a very good atmosphere in the clubhouse after the completion of the day.

1st place: M O’Hara, M Hanson, S Harrison 60.7 pts

2nd place: D Fitzpatrick, S Clegg, N Williamson 60.8 pts

3rd place: S Shillito, S Malins, M Waddington 61.8 pts

Thanks to all the members who supported the event.

A new page has been created dedicated to Saturdays events and can be found here:

Past Rabbit Captains Competition

On Tuesday 13th May, Mr President, Rodger Pearson, Donald Harrison, Dave Pitcheson and Tom McGarrell took part in the annual comp. at Crossland Heath GC. The turn out was very good with 29 past captains playing in warm sunshine to begin with followed by heavy rain but finishing in the sun again. The winner with 37 points was our very own Past Rabbit Captain Tom McGarrell and he can be seen below with the trophy following his return to the club.

15/05/2014 – Par 3 usage

Following complaints received by the staff in the Pro Shop, members are reminded that the par 3 course must be booked and paid for prior to use. The par 3 course is not for additional practice prior to playing in a competition.

11/05/2014 – KAL Update

Kirklees Active Leisure (KAL) took over the management of Bradley Park golf course from Kirklees Council on 1st April, and Club officials held their first meeting with representatives from KAL at the clubhouse on 7th April 2014. Representing the Club at the meeting were Club President, Club Captain, Lady Captain, the Secretary, Vice-President Derek Broadbent and the Club’s Liaison Officer Richard Kaye. Representing KAL were Mr. Mark Dunstan (Head of Operations) and Mr. Barry Turnbull (Business Development Manager). Also present were long-standing professional Parnell Reilly and also Tom Wild from the pro shop.

KAL indicated that it has already invested £25m in leisure provision in Kirklees and is expanding its leisure provision. Kirklees Council, on the other hand, has no further opportunities to invest. KAL stated that, although it receives some funding from Kirklees Council and 2 local councillors sit on its board of trustees, it is wholly independent of the Council. It is a non-profit organisation, and accordingly any surplus income is redirected back into its various enterprises (principally fitness centres, swimming and Bradley Park).
KAL considers Bradley Park to be an established and well-run golf club, and has every intention of maintaining close links with us. They are new to the golf business, and said they would be making no changes of substance in the next 12 months. Matters will be left pretty much as they are for the time being, although KAL hinted at both monetary investment and season-ticket packages in the longer term. Mr. Captain was keen to stress to KAL’s representatives the Club’s hope that KAL would refer any proposed changes to the Club, and it was stated on behalf of KAL that they will consult with us over major issues. They also stated that KAL takes a pro-active position in regard to the matter of complaints in that they view a justifiable complaint “as a gift”, because it provides an opportunity to rectify the matter in question. This was considered a very positive attitude.

Parnell Reilly signified that his view of KAL’S involvement in Bradley Park was very favourable and was a positive step forward. In general, Club officials considered the meeting to have made an encouraging start to our developing relationship with the golf course’s new managers.
